Paul's interest in traditional music goes back to the mid sixties when he founded a folk club whilst still at school. He soon joined the Nottingham Traditional Folk Club as a resident singer, and before long was appearing in folk festivals and on local radio. Gigs followed up and down the country, including a successful tour in France, all of which usefully supplemented his otherwise non-existent income during his years as a medical student.
Once qualified however, medical career and family took over and apart from an occasional private function Paul disappeared from the folk scene for some 15 years. Since the mid - 90's however he has been very active again in the local folk scene and appears widely at sessions in and around his home base in East Cumbria.
